Woodhall Farm

early 19th century

By David Robertson

My greatx5 uncle Joseph Stone was the farmer in the early 1800s – I don’t know all the details beyond that he was quoted as being “at Woodhall Farm near Hempstead” in 1807.  The family was (then!) pretty wealthy and the most interesting item I have is his 1812 will, not yet transcribed, where he leaves various parts of the farm to his wife and eight sons (no daughters mentioned!).

Would be very interested to hear from anyone connected with the family – I’m in WGC so not difficult to meet.  I have quite a number of descendants on the family tree – some returned to Edgware/Pinner, where a lot of the family came from, others remained in Hemel and Redbourn, and one son (James Dunton Stone, named after his uncle) became a baker in Hatfield, with a few James Duntons named after him…

Does anyone know if the farmhouse pictured in association with the Woodhall page would have been the one in use when Joseph was farming?
