Film of the town of Hemel Hempstead in 1961, the street scenes show rows of shops and people walking about on a sunny day. Also have a shot of the mural showing small caricatures illustrating different towns and areas around Hemel; commentator says the map was designed by Rowland Emett, “renowned inventor of crazy contraptions”

Commentator talks of the “many Londoners who, since 1947, have come here to begin a different life away from the congested capital”.
