Hermann Goering's car in Berkhamsted
Direct link to a British Pathe film clip
The clip shows various shots of the Mercedes car that once belonged to Hermann Goering being driven along a country road. It goes into the drive of ‘New Lodge’ and parks beside a row of cars there (Bentley, Rolls and others). Owner Raymond Way comes out of the house and comes over to the car.
The car has been exhibited up and down the country to raise money for the dependants of soldiers, sailors and airmen (the SSAFA – Soldiers’ Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association).
A ‘tour’ of the car shows the engine, the bullet-spattered windscreen and windows, and even the armour plating on the bottom of the car. Other cars in Raymond Way’s collection include Winston Churchill’s Daimler and the Duke of Windsor’s Buick.
