About this website
Our Dacorum is all about uncovering what you think is special about the town. You can use the site to share your stories, memories, snapshots, research and observations of life in the county. It’s entirely up to you what you add; your memory can be of an event you attended last week or something that happened years ago. The website is created by a group of volunteers. We’re always interested in new recruits, so if you’re interested please contact us.
Who is Our Dacorum for?
It is for people of all ages and backgrounds, from teenagers to teachers, families to local historians; it’s about much more than history. You could explore wildlife, the landscape, travel, art, community cultures, whatever you are interested in and would like to share with others. The website’s a place for communities to share, discover and debate. You might not agree with everything, but it’s the range of views that will keep the site lively and interesting!
The Making Memories Project
Our Dacorum is part of the Making Memories project, which has developed a network of websites for the whole of Hertfordshire. This includes Herts Memories, and eight other connected websites.
The project started in May 2009 and was originally funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund for two years. Further funding to maintain the websites has been provided by Hertfordshire County Council. Staff from Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies, Libraries and local museums have been working with volunteers to develop a number of websites. Herts Memories is the gateway to life in Hertfordshire and there are 8 further websites for the various communities in the county. These are:
- Our Welwyn Garden City
- Our Hatfield
- Our Oxhey
- Our Broxbourne
- Our Letchworth
- Our Stevenage
- Our Dacorum
- Our Hertford and Ware

If your community isn’t listed above you can still get involved on the Herts Memories site. You could set up a volunteer group in your town or village and encourage other people to get involved. Why not run a memories event, or a coffee morning where people can come together to share their memories of life in their town or village. You could also encourage your local Clubs and Societies to add pages to the website. Contact us to find out how we can help you.
